Under the co-guidance of Dr. Sun Huan, Professor Liu Jikai, and Dr. Wang Chengming, School of Chemistry and Materials, Jinan University, Dr. Langjun Su, a 2019 graduate student, published his research results in the international authoritative journal Organic Letters as the first author.
Many active molecules of drugs and natural products contain 3, 3-disubsubstituted indolones, and nitrogen-containing heterocycles with quaternary carbon centers are ubiquitous in nature. At present, the synthesis of these compounds is mainly catalyzed by transition metal, which has the disadvantages of high cost, high toxicity, harsh reaction conditions and poor selectivity. The new synthetic method with seasonal carbon center indoleone developed this time has the advantages of more green and environmental protection, which meets the needs of sustainable development of chemistry and has good potential industrial value. A new class of nitroheterocyclic carben-catalyzed radical coupling reaction was designed and a novel catalytic reaction mechanism was proposed. The research topic focuses on the construction of indoleone heterocyclic rings containing quaternary carbon, which is a difficult problem in organic synthesis. Through unremitting efforts and experimental exploration, we successfully developed a nitrogen heterocyclic carbin catalysis, which generates corresponding free radicals through the single electron transfer pathway, and then generates intramolecular cyclization reaction induced by free radical addition. This method can be used to construct 3-position indoleones with quaternary carbon centers in a simple and efficient manner, and to a large extent broaden the application range of substrates for nitroheterocyclic carben-catalyzed reactions. The research was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Natural Science Foundation of Hubei Province and the basic operating funds of the Central Universities. The analysis and Testing Center of South-central University for Nationalities conducted some spectral tests.
Su Lanjun said that he could not publish his papers in international authoritative journals without the excellent scientific research platform set up by the college and the careful guidance of teachers. He was greatly inspired by the study and research. In the next step, he will conduct in-depth research on the synthesis method of indoleone and strive to produce more excellent results.
